I had the chance to stroll around downtown Spokane yesterday with fellow photographer Jason Mayers. Jason enjoys street photography, and I wanted to photograph a street photographer for possible publication through a stock photo agency. I asked Jason to be my subject, and I'm happy to say he agreed.
We met in the afternoon near River Park Square and had some wonderful winter sunlight and a beautiful blue sky to inspire us. There weren't as many people out and about as there would have been had we done this on a weekend, but no matter. We're both photographers, and we had our cameras. So photograph we did.
At one point we turned a corner and saw a gentleman by himself, standing with his back to a building wall, headphones on and listening to something on his smartphone. His smile suggested he clearly enjoyed what he was listening to. It struck me right away how his red headphones matched the red trim on the adjacent window frames and awnings. The color was striking, given the coolness of the winter light. Right away I knew he would be a great subject for Jason and me, assuming he agreed to be photographed.
Agree he did. His name is Marcus, and he was quite happy to let us photograph him. After we got the shots we wanted, we thanked Marcus for his time and bid him good-bye. He said he was off to a job interview. I wish him well and hope his interview was successful.
I enjoyed walking around with Jason, taking pictures and talking to people, and I got some nice photos, some of which I've added to this blog and elsewhere on this web site. Even if my stock photo submission isn't chosen for publication, I'm still happy to have had this one photographic experience. Thank you Jason for joining me and allowing me to photograph you. It surely was my pleasure.
